School Analysis
Roger Williams has 820 students with a maximum of 63 teachers. The attendance of the school is 88% as of the state 94%, 12 percent of the student body miss school. Out of the 820 students, only 617 of them get free lunch leaving 42 students with reduced-price lunch eligible. How can we evaluate the achievement of this school? Does it meet standards? The R.I. Department of Elementary determines school-performance classifications based on the No Child Left Behind Act and gives test scores, participation rate on tests, and attendance rates. There was an average of 87.2% of the students in the school to take this test. Overall the student body of the school Roger Williams did not meet standard in English Language Arts is this fact due to the majority of the school is Hispanic and second English speakers? But, as a surprise, in Mathematics the students were able to meet the target scored. Roger Williams is classified as insufficient process. The school only met 18 targets and 25 targets were evaluated.
The biggest problem that has been mention In the salt survey 2006- 2007 is that students don't tend to read a lot and i think that's a major issue is was said that kids would rather do group work than being alone. its was questioned "would you do better next year" and the majority of the people voted yes they would but the next question was would you make honor roll next year and only a little students less than half were able to answer yes. Also the support system that students have with their parents is really good because they need that support.
Roger Williams Middle school have a very large bilingual/English as a Second Language program. Many of the students come to this school from their native countries without any knowledge of the English language.
Conclusion
Roger Williams Middle School is a diverse community with strengths and weaknesses. Great strengths in this school are seen in the support teachers provide to their students, the vast amount of extracurricular activities provided to the students. Although Roger Williams Middle school is not a high standard school, i feel as though that if the principles and teachers dedicate time to Roger Williams to make the school better. It obviously that the school needs a lot of work as far as the condition of the school and the teaching style. By addressing these issues and in the future improving them, the students can improve in their school performance and successfully complete their education; it is the responsibility of the teachers and other faculty within the school, district, and the parents of the community, to help them do that.
